by Colin Mansell, Managing Director

Back in the last century, on total eclipse day, 11 August 1999, to be precise, I achieved a goal whereby I managed to assemble, in the City of London, the leading Learning Management System (LMS) vendors at that time.

In a conference room they were ‘put on the spot’ one at at time, and asked to justify their existence, their hype and their prices!.

The outcomes were, to say the least, revealing, and my expectations were well exceeded. In short, it confirmed my long-held suspicions that the learning management marketplace was being technology driven and appeared to pay mere lip-service to the end users - LMS vendors justified the huge prices in terms of the extensive 'bells and whistles'.

I first worked closely with LMSs in the 80s when I was fortunate to be part of the team which developed and delivered systems worldwide on mainframe computer systems stretching across many continents.

It taught me a lot, and the arrival of LMSs on the internet has been like a second-coming to me!

However, it has been largely a disappointing second-coming.
The systems have been feature led, the approach has been one of trying to get the computer to do everything, the end-user appears to be the least important component and the prices have been astronomic.

Until NOW! Since then, we have been evolving and delivering our own learning management system. Our focus - the features needed by creators and users to enable efficient assembly of courses, efficient maintenance of courses and efficient availability of courses based on content from a potential myriad of sources.
